Stephen L. Braga has been recognized as one of the "Best Lawyers In America" in numerous practice areas. He has received several awards for successful high-profile pro bono representations involving exoneration.

In 2008 and 2009 he received the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers "Gideon" Award and the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project "Defender of Innocence" Award for his work in helping to achieve exoneration for Marty Tankleff after spending nearly two decades in prison.

In 2012 he received the Death Penalty Focus "Abolition" Award, the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project "Defender of Innocence" Award, and the National Law Journal "Pro Bono Hot List" Award for his work in helping to free the West Memphis Three after spending eighteen years in prison.

Since 1993, Steve has also taught as an Adjunct Professor of Law at both Georgetown University and the University of Virginia. He has taught courses in Professional Responsibility, Civil Litigation, Evidence, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Innocence Cases and Trial Practice. He has been selected as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and as one of the "Top 100 Trial Lawyers" by the National Trial Lawyers organization.
