Ira Socol is the Design Program Manager for the Albemarle County Public Schools and is a global leader in the re-imagining of educational spaces and educational technology use. The developer of Toolbelt Theory, a Universal design strategy for educational technology, and a builder of multi-platform, fully accessible educational computing networks since 1996, Socol's research ranges from Special Education Technology to the history of American education and its tools. He has presented his work widely in the US and in Europe, and has worked with school systems of every size, in every type of community.
In Albemarle County he leads the Design 2015 Projects which aim to eliminate barriers to transformation in the system's 26 schools. In this work he moves between the areas of Curriculum and Instruction, Technology, and Building Services, bringing these units together to create fundamental change.
