In the past years, the topic of student entrepreneurship has emerged as a central theme to the student body at U.Va, Clubs centered on entrepreneurship have proliferated, increasing numbers participate in start-up competitions, and businesses emerge from recent graduates.

Whether or not entrepreneurship is a fad and start-ups are the soup de jour, entrepreneurship education is wrapped within an ongoing debate over what students should expect from a college education. Furthermore, entrepreneurship curriculum has caught the attention of major players in the Charlotesville community as well as the U.Va. alumni network—perhaps as a fond reflection of the resources alumni wish they had in college, a respect for lean start-ups and scrappy entrepreneurs, or even an eye for the next big idea from on Grounds that could turn into a prescient investment.

In this panel, Jaffray Woodriff, a founder of one of the world’s largest funds, talks with Spencer Ingram, founder of HackCVille, a student entrepreneurship club-house just off U.Va. Grounds, and David Touve and Brendan Richardson, professors at the Galant Center for Entrepreneurship at the McIntire School of Commerce.
