UVA's own Akademix is an upbeat hip hop dance collective formed in 2009, with the self-proclaimed mission of promoting hip hop dance through precision, togetherness, and creativity. After holding their first open auditions at the University in 2010, the group attained official CIO status the following year. Though still young, Akademix have already developed a diverse sound that seamlessly blends contemporary jazz, modern, breaking, waving, and popping, among others.
