Tom Tom Talks: The CIC

In the Tom Tom Talks series, you have the chance to interact with the Resident creators in a more casual fashion. In this case, the CIC will be dialoguing about their first class of entrepreneurs!
The Community Investment Collaborative (CIC) is a microfinance non-profit in Charlottesville formed to supply funding and mentorship to start-up businesses and entrepreneurs, particularly those emerging from underserved communities. Tom Tom is proud to have the CIC as an Innovator in Residence and offer the community the chance to hear their story.
A wide variety of businesses were represented in this inaugural class including: a Jamaican Restaurant, a catering company, a hair design company, a canning cooperative, a handyman cooperative, a barber shop, a DJ business, a spa center, a coffee shop, and a transport business for the disabled, just to name a few. Eleven of the entrepreneurs are women and eight are men. Eleven are startups and eight are existing businesses wanting to grow. Fifteen entrepreneurs are from Charlottesville, two are from Fluvanna County, and two are from Nelson County.
